 Telecommunications pioneer Craig O. McCaw has donated $1 million in support of the endowment for the Jane Goodall Institute, the organization founded by Dr. Jane Goodall, the worldís foremost primatologist and conservationist. 
 The donation, a gift from the Craig and Susan McCaw Foundation, comes on the heels of another million-dollar gift recently made to the Institute by James Clark, the founder of several high-tech companies including Silicon Graphics, Netscape, Healtheon, and Shutterfly. 
 Dr. Goodall was gratified to learn of McCawís donation following a recent visit to Seattle. "Craigís generosity will go a long way toward helping JGI make the world a better place for all living things," she said. "His gift bolsters my confidence that JGI will realize the goals of its endowment." 
 The gift to the Institute is the latest example of McCawís longstanding commitment to conservation. His work on behalf of nature and the environment includes serving as founding financial supporter and chairman of the Free Willy Keiko Foundation, which merged last year with the Jean-Michel Cousteau Institute to form the Ocean Futures Society. 
 "During my tenure at JGI, I have been struck time and time again by evidence of how strongly the work of the Jane Goodall Institute resonates with individuals in the high-tech industry," said Stewart Hudson, Executive Director of the Institute. "There seems to be a unique element to our efforts in wildlife research, education, and conservation that attracts successful high-tech pioneers like Craig McCaw and James Clark."
